zelda 30year tribute

Nintendo's NES classic The Legend of Zelda is 30 years old this year, and what better way to celebrate it than to drag it kicking and screaming from its console origins, right to your browser. The Legend of Zelda 30-Year Tribute is an open-source version of the original game built in WebGL — playable on web and mobile browsers — and rendered in voxels, giving the NES game's pixel graphics a chunky "2.5D" makeover that makes it look like Nintendo's classic re-imagined in Minecraft.

If you're a gamer that keeps an ear to the ground, the news of revamped flagship consoles for both Sony's Playstation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One won't surprise you. While previous sources have claimed that new consoles are coming, none of them have given any idea as to when we could actually see these consoles. Now, some semblance of timing may available to us all.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Sony's revamped Playstation 4 will be announced and perhaps launched before its own VR headset sees a release. The publication says it has its own sources that affirm Sony's push to get a new console out that would improve, but not replace, its current flagship console. Given that Sony intends to release the Playstation VR later this year, and assuming the report is accurate, the "PS4.5" could release as early this fall.

tom clancys the division

The wait for Tom Clancy's The Division was a long one indeed, but it certainly seems to have been worth it. The game's developer, Ubisoft, revealed recently that it had sold more copies in its first 24 hours than any other game in the company's history - but now, it's also revealed that The Division has smashed a new global record.

xbox live cross platform network play

Microsoft is announcing a big new feature for Xbox owners today: cross-network play. It's something the software giant has hinted at for years, and now it seems the reality of PS4, Xbox One, and PC players playing the same game together might finally happen. Developers building games for Xbox One and Windows 10 will be able to support the feature, but it will require Sony and others to "participate" in order for games to be played across Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Rocket League will be one of the first titles to support the new cross-network play, and Microsoft notes there is an "open invitation for other networks to participate as well," strongly hinting that Sony or other console manufacturers could enable gamers to play their friends regardless of what device they're using.

uncharted 4

Some surprising news out of Sony today: Naughty Dog has given Uncharted 4 its third and, hopefully final, delay, moving the release date two weeks back to May 10. According to Sony, the developer is delaying the game to ensure a smooth worldwide release. From the Playstation Blog:

“As you know, Naughty Dog is wrapping up production on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End with the game on track to go gold and into production later this month. In an effort to meet the considerable worldwide demand, and to ensure that all gamers worldwide have the opportunity to play the game on day one, we have chosen to postpone the launch of the game by two weeks to allow for extra manufacturing time.”
